How do you create a cohesive visual identity for a legendary artist that engages new audiences and appeals to existing fans?

Rather than focus on cliched counterculture tropes, we instigated an exploration into what made Janis... well, Janis. The work honours her raw spirit and cultural impact while creating a cohesive brand language that resonates across digital platforms, physical product and moving image.

Janis' identity was a collection of random videos, past sleeves and posters, and fan art.

Taking inspiration from the counter-culture of the late sixties she was synonymous with, an identity was developed that took the elements of Art Nouveau, cutting edge inks and psychedelia and reworked them to be relevant to them existing and new audiences while retaining her authentic voice.

A primary focus of the campaign was to include a bespoke typeface for her logo, and one that could be rolled out across multiple channels as a unique element owned by the Janis Joplin Estate.

The identity tranlated over to music videos, lyric videos & visualisers, emphasising and developing the aesthetic and emotional content of the music.

For the the tour supporting the release of the album, a book of poetry was produced containing diary entries, extended lyrics and documentry photography. Printed as a perfect-bound publication featuring a spot UV cover/
